Oatmeal Baby Bites: A Tasty Treat the Whole Family Will Eat

Baby Bird, like many small children, is addicted to Gerber Puff Cereal Snacks. She recognizes the container. She can smell them from the next room. She LOSES HER MIND when you stop giving them to her.

So I usually don’t stop. I let my mom or cousins ply her with puffs because they keep her happy and they’re only 25 calories for 60 puffs. But there’s no real nutritional value to them, and that bothers me.

I’ve been looking for a baby puff recipe for months, and I’ve yet to find one. So, I concocted oatmeal baby bites.

They’re just five ingredients, and they’re a great way to use up my Stage 2 baby food stash. Bonus: Baby Bird has had some constipation issues lately, and the bites are an easy way to get her to eat oatmeal, which her pediatrician said could help.

Over the course of a day, I made more than 300 bites: peach with a hint of lemon extract, apple/strawberry/banana, and sweet potato. Baby Bird and Mr. T have been plowing through the treats, so we only have about half of them left.

That tells me I must’ve done something right.

BTW: If you make the bites with all flour (three-quarters of a cup), add sharp cheddar cheese (eighth-cup), and sprinkle the tops with coarse-ground salt, they taste like Cheez-It crackers!

    • Hi! I’ve been trying for some time to figure out why the recipe is no longer showing. If I’m not able to restore it, I’ll add it to the blog post ASAP!

    • My daughter was able to eat them once we started to introduce solid foods. They were pretty soft, so even a child without teeth, like Baby Bird, could eat them.
      Thanks for reading and commenting!

    • You might be able to sub in all oat flour. It’s likely to change the texture, though. Please let me know how this works out for you!

    • You might be able to sub in oat flour. I’m sure you could use whole-wheat flour. Both will likely change the texture, though. Please let me know how it works out for you!
