Baby Bird has keratosis pilaris, a condition that can make her upper forearms feel rough and bumpy. If I don’t stay on top of keeping her moisturized, her skin looks rashed and uncomfortable — not something I want for my little one.

Of course, I immediately blamed myself (it’s stupid, but it’s what I do). Maybe I was bathing her too much or not enough. Maybe I was washing her too hard or not hard enough. Her doctor reassured me that I hadn’t done anything wrong, and that the condition can be hereditary. (I realized after the appointment that I have it on my arms, and my mom does, too. Score one for genetics!)

The pediatrician said the best way to manage it is to keep Baby Bird moisturized (since she’s not old enough for exfoliation), and I thought I was doing that by using a popular baby wash and lotion. But no matter how much I used, the “rash” never went away. At times, it looked red and irritated, and I worried that some sort of medicated treatment (if one exists?) might be necessary.

Then the Baby Dove line was released.

We’ve been using it for about a month and the change in her skin is remarkable. Most days, I can barely feel the bumps on her arms, the redness has vanished, and her skin stays moisturized far longer than it did with the other brand.

This might sound strange (and off-topic), but I want my baby to smell like a baby. She doesn’t need to be strawberry- or lemon-scented, or smell like a 44-year-old woman who’s gone crazy with Bath & Body Works spray. That isn’t an issue with Baby Dove. It’s not unscented, but the smell is fresh and barely there.

Baby Bird smells like spring, and it’s a wonderful thing.

I was so excited about what the line did for Baby Bird that I wrote to the people at Dove. I wanted them to know what a great product they have, what it did for my kid, and that I love it so much I’m using it on myself.
